Mississippi publishes your registered agent's name and street address in a free business search. That listing is public. It is the main fact strangers can find about your company. Act as your own agent and the address they find is your home. Appoint a commercial agent and their office fills that slot instead.

The statute is stricter than most. Miss. Code Ann. § 79-29-113 says your registered office and your agent's business office must be the same address. So you cannot keep an office in Jackson while your agent sits in another town. Whoever you pick, their street address becomes your registered office.

Mississippi also keeps a public list of commercial registered agents. Naming one off that list is enough. They agreed in advance to serve any company that picks them, and an agent who does not want you has 14 days to file a Statement of Nonacceptance. Silence counts as yes. The report is free and takes minutes, but it arrives in the week you are least likely to look at your mail. Miss it and the Secretary of State can administratively dissolve the LLC.
