Hostinger is a private Lithuanian hosting company founded in 2004 as Hosting Media in Kaunas and rebranded in 2011. It has grown fast, 4.6 million customers, EUR 275.4 million in 2025 revenue (up 51 percent year over year), and about 3.25 million .com domains under management as of end of 2025. That .com number made Hostinger the third-largest .com gainer globally in 2025.
ICANN-accredited, IANA ID 1636. CEO Daugirdas Jankus took the role in 2023. Private Lithuanian UAB, with a German investor group (ConHostinger) holding about 31 percent from a 2021 transaction. Employees over 1,000. No confirmed IPO.
The registrar product is real, but it is a secondary feature built into a hosting-first control panel called hPanel. The strongest case for Hostinger Domains is as part of a bundle. Outside the bundle, the case gets thinner quickly.

Pricing, bundle versus standalone

Hostinger's headline pricing on .com is aggressive. You will see $0.01 and $2.99 first-year anchors in different campaigns, and free-with-hosting on every annual plan at premium tier and above. That first year is a real discount. The second year is not.
Renewal on .com lands around $19.99 per year. Independent reviewers have measured the renewal jump at about 267 percent over the promotional first year. Redemption (restoring an expired domain) costs about $80 plus renewal and VAT for most TLDs during days 31 to 74 post-expiry.
Other TLDs follow a similar pattern. First-year promos are cheap, renewals are higher. .net runs about $11.99 first year with a renewal in the $11.99 to $15.69 range. .org is about $7.99 first year with a higher renewal. .co sits around $27.99 first year and $34.99 renewal. .io can be about $31.99 first year with renewals around $67.99 per third-party trackers.

Free features, adequate for bundled buyers

WHOIS privacy is free on supported TLDs and applied by default for EU and Brazilian citizens under GDPR and LGPD. About 30 TLDs do not support Hostinger privacy because of registry rules. Privacy toggles propagate within 12 hours.
Domain lock is on by default, must be disabled manually to transfer out. 2FA is free (TOTP apps or email). Auto-renew is free and controllable. DNS management is free via hPanel when using Hostinger nameservers, with standard record types supported.
Two gaps that matter. DNSSEC is not supported on Hostinger nameservers. If you want DNSSEC, point the domain at a third-party DNS provider that signs its zone. And free SSL requires a hosting plan. A standalone domain buyer does not get SSL bundled, which is unusual for the category.

Nameservers and DNS, flexible with a signing gap

External nameservers are supported. You can point any Hostinger-registered domain at any third-party nameserver from hPanel. Standard record types, no ALIAS or URL redirect record explicitly listed. Hostinger does not publish an anycast SLA on its free DNS tier, so treat the DNS product as adequate for basic use, not as enterprise-grade.
The DNSSEC story is the single biggest technical shortfall. On Cloudflare, Namecheap, and Porkbun, DNSSEC is a checkbox. On Hostinger, it is effectively 'go use someone else's nameservers.' For readers who care about signed delegations, that is a strike.

The public REST API at developers.hostinger.com is surprisingly complete for a budget registrar. Supported actions include domain registration, WHOIS queries, forwarding management, lock toggles, privacy toggles, and DNS configuration. Official SDKs in PHP, Python, and TypeScript. A CLI. An MCP server. An n8n node.
If you want to script domain operations across a portfolio, Hostinger is usable. The API is a bigger surface than Namecheap's and closer to Dynadot's in completeness, which is unusual for a hosting-first registrar.

Reputation and trust signals

Trustpilot sits at 4.7 on roughly 65,869 reviews as of April 2026, which is an unusually high score for a hosting provider at that volume. Trustpilot score integrity has historically been questioned, Hostinger was publicly accused in 2017 of inflating ratings via employee-submitted reviews, which remains cited in Wikipedia. Weight the 4.7 accordingly.
BBB is 'Not Rated' with no accreditation. The Delaware US profile is a registered-agent-only address. Sitejabber shows about 3.2 on 737 reviews, with themes around refund handling, account suspensions, and mixed billing support.
The largest reputational drag on Hostinger is the abuse-department pattern documented across Reddit, Web Hosting Talk, and long-form reviews. Reports cluster around aggressive suspensions of accounts accused of phishing or policy violations, with data denied for recovery and refunds refused. Security history

Hostinger disclosed a 14 million-account breach in August 2019. Usernames, emails, first names, SHA-1 hashed passwords, and IPs were exposed. No financial data was compromised. Hostinger force-reset passwords, moved to stronger hashing, and there is no publicly reported customer data breach since.
Beyond that, 2022 saw the website preview feature abused to host phishing pages.
