Forming a new Utah LLC? A Bizee or ZenBusiness bundle can throw in a free first year of agent service with the $59 state filing fee. That suits people who want one transaction. Already have an LLC and just need to swap agents? A standalone service like Northwest or Harbor Compliance fits better. You pay for the agent and nothing else.
Utah's compliance calendar is short. There is no franchise tax. There is no post formation filing. The $18 annual report is the only thing the state asks of you each year. You do not need a heavy compliance dashboard. Steady mail forwarding and one reminder is most of the job.
Watch the second year. Several services discount year one and then renew higher, ZenBusiness at $199 and Harbor Compliance at $149. Utah also has agents that serve only this state. They often price below the national names. We do not rank them, because we only list services we hold accounts with. They are still worth a look if you will never register in a second state. Still comparing bundles? Our guide to the best LLC formation services in Utah shows which ones save money over two years.

It is a real risk. A registered agent has to be at the listed address during normal business hours to accept service of process. If a process server or a state notice arrives while you are out on a shoot, a missed delivery can still count as legal notice, meaning a lawsuit or deadline moves forward without you knowing. For someone who travels a lot, that is exactly the scenario a paid agent is built to prevent, they are always there to receive and forward it.

Does Utah charge anything if I want to change my registered agent down the road

Yes, Utah is one of the states that charges to switch. You file an amendment with the Division of Corporations to change your registered agent, and the fee is $15 as I write this. It is not a huge cost, but it is worth knowing that changing agents here is not free the way it is in some states. Factor it in if you think you might move from being your own agent to a service later, or switch between services.

Correction to my answer above. The fee is $17, not $15. Utah lists it under Amendment and Change Filings on the Fiscal Year 2026 fee schedule, and the same $17 applies whether you file the change online or on the paper form. I checked the schedule again today. The rest of the answer stands, changing your agent in Utah is not free.

Is it a problem to use my home address as my registered agent address in Utah

You can use your home address if you are a Utah resident and you are there during business hours, a PO box will not work. The problem for most people is privacy. Your home address goes on the public record at the Division of Corporations, searchable by anyone, including marketers and anyone you might do business with. If you are fine with that, being your own agent is free. If not, a service uses its address instead, which is the main reason people pay for one.
