The catch is the pricing model. Rippling does not sell a standalone payroll product. When you hire someone, a single workflow can generate an offer letter, collect I-9 and tax documents via e-signature, enroll the new hire in benefits, provision their laptop, set up software accounts (Slack, Google Workspace, etc.), and add them to payroll. All from one trigger. Offboarding works in reverse: terminate someone and their device access, software licenses, corporate card, and payroll all shut down automatically. We tested the workflow builder and found it genuinely useful, though configuring complex multi-step workflows takes time upfront.

Implementation and Migration

This is Rippling's weakest area based on user feedback. BBB complaints and Reddit threads describe failed implementations, difficulty migrating historical tax data, and account managers who become unresponsive after the sale. One BBB complainant reported being charged $1,500 for onboarding and then left to configure the system themselves. Rippling assigns a dedicated implementation team, but the quality appears inconsistent.
