1. Confirm your registered agent on file. New Mexico business filings are online only now. Log into the Secretary of State's portal. Check that your agent's name and address are correct on your LLC record.
2. Apply for an EIN from the IRS. It is free at irs.gov. It takes about 10 minutes. You will need it to open a business bank account or file taxes.
3. Register with the Taxation and Revenue Department. This applies if you will owe gross receipts tax or have employees. Sign up for a New Mexico Business Tax Identification Number through Taxpayer Access Point. Registration is free. The state called it a CRS number until 2021.
4. Open a business bank account. Bring your Articles of Organization, EIN letter, and operating agreement. Most banks want all three.
5. Set up compliance alerts with your RA service. There is no annual report here. But your agent should still flag legal documents, tax notices, and service of process the moment they arrive.
